|Be more through BE:Lab
Are you searching for a job? Do you want to gain computer skills to make yourself more
marketable in the current job climate?
BE:Lab offers classes in everything from basic computing to Windows 7 to using Social Media to promote yourself or your business. We currently offer Wednesday One Hour Tech Workshops, Thursday Evening Tech Workshops and a new program just for pure fun and creativity: Dream and Create with Pinterest. Don't forget, we have photo editing classes, too. For a complete list of classes and descriptions, click here.
Also, BE:Lab Project Manager Jennifer Gaylor is available during library hours Monday through Friday for one-on-one appointments (outside of class times) to help individuals with a number of technology and job related questions. We recommend you call ahead for an appointment. Call Jennifer at (607) 684-0361.
Funding for Be:Lab is provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).
Genealogy & Local History
Our collection of newspapers is not indexed. If you request genealogical research assistance, we require that you have narrowed the approximate date of birth, marriage or death to within a two-week span. We will try our best to fulfill your request, time permitting. To make a genealogical research request or local history research request, click here.
Patrons can also access HeritageQuest Online, a subscription service available only at the library with a Southeast Steuben County Library card. This site provides access to Census records from 1790-1930, full texts of more than 28,000 family and local histories, an index of more than 2 million genealogy articles, Freedman's Bank, Revolutionary War records and the U.S. Serial Set. Heritage Quest access is funded with a generous grant from The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes.
