The Southeast Steuben County Library was given a grant in memory of Keith Vaughan, to create programming that educates people about the Buffalo Soldiers.
As part of those programs, the Library has sponsored a poetry contest about the Buffalo Soldiers.
Poems were submitted in two categories, teen and adult. There are prizes, both monetary and physical.
The judges for the contest are Akua Lezli Hope; Karen Alpha; and Wendy Low.

Today is July 28th, National Buffalo Soldiers Day. Tonight’s event is an online program with a brief keynote speech about the Buffalo Soldiers, and the contest winners will read their poems.
