SUMMARY:Lil Rockwell | Stroller Walk: Día de los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Nonnie Hood Parents’ Resource Center for a stroll down Market Street. We’ll play I-Spy while we walk and explore the different colors and shapes around us! Our walk will end at the Art Lab\, where we will enjoy a story with Miss Sue from the Southeast Steuben County Library. Stay after the program to explore the self-guided activities in the Art Lab and exhibitions in The Rockwell Museum.   \nLil Rockwell creates opportunities to explore art-viewing and artmaking for our littlest visitors and their caregivers. During different months\, you’ll find either an art class suitable for children 18 mo- 5 years; a story hour for children of all ages; or a stroller walk\, where even infants can participate! Lil Rockwell occurs on the first Thursday of every month except for September. This program is designed to engage your little ones through art exploration; and for the grown-ups–we have coffee!

SUMMARY:Online Author Talk | Nuestra América\, with Smithsonian Educators
DESCRIPTION:Join us in conversation with Smithsonian professionals Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key as they discuss Nuestra América: 30 Inspiring Latinas/Latinos Who Have Shaped the United States. They will highlight inspiring stories of Latinos throughout history\, and their incredible contributions to the cultural\, social\, and political character of the United States. Featuring beautifully illustrated portraits by Gloria Félix\, this is a book that children (and adults) will page through and learn from again and again. \nThe stories in Nuestra América cover each figure’s cultural background and childhood\, and their accomplishments or contributions to American history. A glossary of terms and discussion question-filled reading guide\, created by the National Museum of the American Latino\, encourages further research and exploration. The museum has featured twenty-three of these stories in its exhibition ¡Presente! A Latino History of the United States\, the first exhibition to feature U.S. Latino history at the national level. \nYou can register for this free\, live\, online talk here.\nThis is one of a series of free\, live-streamed author talks made possible through the Library’s partnership with Library Speakers Consortium (LSC). You can learn more about upcoming presentations on our LSC microsite\, as well as watch recordings of presentations that you were unable to attend live. \nAbout the Presenters: Adrián Aldaba\, a Chicago native\, is the national programs manager for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino. In this capacity\, he serves audiences of all ages by bringing the Latino Museum’s programs and content to communities where they live and thrive outside of the Washington\, D.C. area. \nEmily Key is the assistant director of Learning and Public Engagement at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino where she developed the museum’s learning continuum and education vision centered on creating opportunities for visitors to experience\, learn\, reflect\, and transform by sparking curiosity and encouraging life-long learning. \n\n\n
