Award winning poet and creator Akua Lezli Hope will read a selection of her speculative poetry in honor of National Poetry month. This event will be online, via Zoom,
Speculative poetry, ancient of days, older than the flood, the poetry of possibilities, centers the imagined as real. From Nursery Rhymes to Edgar Allen Poe’s the Raven, from Puff the Magic Dragon to Zombie Jamboree, we’ve all recited and sung speculative poetry. Join us for this fun and inspiring celebration.

About Akua Lezli Hope: Her collections include Embouchure: Poems on Jazz and Other Musics (Writer’s Digest Book Award) & Otherwheres: Speculative Poetry (Elgin Award). A Cave Canem fellow, her honors include NEA & NYFA fellowships; SFPA, Rhysling & IGNYTE awards; NYSCA grants for Afrofuturist, speculative, pastoral poetry & disability poetics. She created the ongoing Speculative Sundays Poetry Reading series & edited NOMBONO: An Anthology of Speculative Poetry by BIPOC Creators, the first of its kind. Her speculative fiction is included in the celebrated anthologies Dark Matter & Africa Risen, among others. Her collection, TELEPATH will be published in 2026.
