If you don’t know about STARCat, read on below!
STARCat is an online catalog where patrons can look up items and place holds on them from any of the 48 members Libraries in the Southern Tier Library System (STLS). You can do this on your home computer, smart phone, or at dedicated STARCat stations at the Library.

Patrons can search for an item by title, subject, author, ISBN or other keywords, and by the categories of books, audio books, DVDs and video, juvenile and young adult collections.
Patrons can also search physical magazines from different Libraries in the system

After entering the search words, a menu called “Limit Search Results” appears to the left of the results; this allows the patron to focus the results to particular libraries, authors, publication dates and more.

Once a sought item is found, the patron can place a hold on the item by logging into STARCat with the 13 digit number on the back of their library card, and their PIN code. Aren’t sure you know your PIN code? No problem! Just give us a call at (607) 936-3713, x502, and someone at the reference desk will help you find your PIN; they can even help you change it. IMPORTANT NOTICE: at the end of August, 2023, you will be required to create a password to replace your 4 digit PIN code. The password must: contain between 8 and 20 characters; at least 1 uppercase letter; at least 1 lowercase letter; at least 1 number; and at least 1 special character.
