The Southeast Steuben County Library will be the site for a Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, May 15th from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. If you donated blood at the March 20 Community Blood Drive at the Library, you are safely eligible to donate again at this drive.
The need for blood is high, especially Type O. Your donation of any blood type can help to save a life.
You can sign up by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or sign up on the Red Cross Blood Drive page: put in 14830 for the zip code, and then scroll down to May 15.
You can download the smartphone app to track your donation history and sign up for future drives.
If you have never given blood before and would like some more information, check out this helpful page.
Update #1: The Red Cross is coordinating with the Library to host blood drives on a 56+ day schedule: that means that each time you give blood at the Library, you will be eligible to give blood at the next scheduled drive! How convenient to be able to come back to the Library for all of your donations. The next drive after this will be Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Update #2: The American Red Cross is now welcoming more donors through updated FDA donation eligibility guidelines that eliminate longstanding broad, time-based deferrals based on sexual orientation. Under this new donor screening process, all donors answer the same eligibility questions regardless of gender or sexual orientation and will be assessed for blood donation based on individual risk factors, not on sexual orientation.
