Beyond Books! - Southeast Steuben County Library

Welcome to Beyond Books!
Beyond Books is a list of useful and unique physical objects available to be checked out from Libraries in the Southern Tier Library System. These objects range from sewing machines to puzzles, kitchen appliances to telescopes, even fishing rods and ukuleles! The list is ever changing as Libraries add new items to their collections and old items are updated and replaced.

How to Use Beyond Books :
1) Items are loosely organized into groups by object type or function. Click the + to open a group, click the – to close it.
2) Within each grouping, items are listed with the owning Library. When you click on the item, you are taken to a page in STARCat* where you can learn more about the item and place a hold (if that is an option).
Note: many of these items, while they can be placed on hold, cannot be delivered to another Library but must be picked up at the owning Library. We recommend calling the owning Library for details about item availability, holds and checkout policies. You can find contact information for each Library here.

*STARCat is an online catalog where patrons can look up items and place holds on them from any of the 48 members Libraries in the Southern Tier Library System (STLS). You can do this on your home computer, smart phone, or at dedicated STARCat stations at the Library. Learn more here.

The Beyond Books project is the brainchild of Kate Matthews, a volunteer intern at the Southeast Steuben County Library. We appreciate her imagination and dedication, and thank her for the hard work and research she put in to make this resource a reality.
