We have a few resources for genealogy research: our local history collection, our microfiche collection, and Heritage Quest online.

HERITAGEQUEST ONLINE
This genealogical search resource includes scanned Census data 1790- 1940, Freedman’s Bank data, U.S. Serial Set and more. Funded with a generous grant from The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes. Click on the purple link above to go to the website and log in.
You will need a Library card from the Southeast Steuben County Library to use this resource.
When the HeritageQuest landing page asks you to “please enter the barcode or ID assigned to you by your institution” it means the 13 digit number on the back of your Library card.

RESEARCH REQUEST: Our volunteers provide a valuable service in looking up information such as death records and obituaries in our local history and microfiche collections; however, volunteer time is limited. Therefore, requests must be as specific as possible. Our volunteers will search up to seven issues of a newspaper.

– Applicable fees include 25 cents per photocopied page plus $2.00 postage and handling.

– You must submit a separate form each individual research request.
